Loft Hindley

Client: Private
Location: Vredehoek, City Bowl

Brief: To convert an existing roof in an apartment block into a sunny bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.

To get the maximum use out of this tight space, the angle of the splayed wall is used as the primary element to set-up the design of the loft.

The existing roof rafters are exposed and reframed to get maximum height in the space. This details defines a clean rhythm.

Eye-level sky-lights open to the north capturing views of the city and flooding the space in natural light.

A combination of radial and double treads are used in the design of the staircase as access to the loft is very restricted allowing for steep but comfortable climb.
