Client: Private
Location: Hout Bay
Brief: To design a house on a steep slope at the foot of the mountain using natural resources from the site (done in conjunction with Eco Design Architects).
The position of the house is determined by using the surrounding landscape to harness natural light, wind and divert water run-off from the mountain.
The building is conceived as a series of stepping forms that follow the slope of the land while reflecting the mountain and echoing the verticality of the surrounding trees.
All the stone and timber used is either harvested on-site or reycled. Natural finishes are used extensively both internally and externally.
Passive heating, cooling and ventilation strategies are used throughout the house. All waste and storm water are recycled on-site and filtered back into the garden.
